With H2 Green Steels’ (H2GS AB) billion investment, Boden Industrial Park will now be an industrial center for the continued development of the climate-smart production of a fossil-free green steel.
Now and in the next two decades, just over 1,000 billion will be invested in northern Sweden. Over a 20-year period, LKAB will invest SEK 400 billion, all to meet the necessary global adjustment and reduce current carbon dioxide emissions. In this historically large industrial investment, 500 hectares with a good electricity supply just north of Boden will be the optimal establishment site for an important part of the conversion work.
The planned hydrogen plant will be one of the largest of its kind in the world. Combined with a production facility for fossil-free green quality steel and the cutting-edge expertise available in Luleå, it means that Boden is involved in revolutionizing the traditional Swedish steel industry.
– Svartbyn’s industrial area will be a unique area of activity for the industry’s conversion to a fossil-free production. The entire ecosystem spectrum from Plug & Play to the large-scale has meant that we have had a head start and level of development where few other municipalities have been, says Mats Berg, head of the local government and business development.
At Boden’s Plug and Play, many different projects interact, such as biogas, data centers and pure research projects. With climate-smart, energy-efficient solutions, Plug and Play is an incubator and a step into large-scale production in Boden Industrial Park. The area has been developed for several years, and with great accuracy. Throughout the process, with the purchase of land, general plans and detailed planning, there has been a solid collaboration between the municipality and other actors, such as property owners and electricity companies.
– The foundation for what we will soon see built at Boden Industrial Park is a result of the fact that we have been able to offer both large land areas and a powerful electricity resource from the national electricity grid. It is a core point and a node in the entire electricity system, says Håkan Nordin, Boden Business Agency AB.
Boden Business Agency AB is a municipal company that works to attract new companies to the municipality. It works specifically with developing and packaging land areas, and supports companies in all stages of the establishment process.

Through Plug and Play, we improve the opportunities for development and establishment, and through Boden Business Park, it is ensured that we receive the training and skills these new establishments need, concludes Mats Berg.
